A ReNew upgrade typically takes 2-3 days. An MTS field service engineer removes the existing controls and electronics and replaces with MTS hardware. The FSE then configures the system hardware and software and verifies calibration on all sensors: force, displacement, crosshead speed and strain. When the upgrade is complete, you will receive training on system operation.

Our engineering team in Westerville, Ohio designs and builds our custom Criterion test systems. Before the start of the project, you'll meet with the engineering team to discuss requirements and scope. They will then generate a quote and work with you to finalize the design. From there, they'll build the system to the agreed upon specifications. After your acceptance, the system will be shipped to you and installed by our MTS field service team.

Custom Solution Examples

New Torsional Testing Capabilities

We've modified many Criterion Systems to add torsional or axial-torsional testing capabilities. In this example, we added axial-torsional capabilities to a Criterion Model 44 with dual work zones. We added a motor and gearbox to the upper zone, removed and re-machined the crosshead to accept the bearing and spindle setup, and piloted adapter plates to mount the A/T cell and MTS torsion grips to the crosshead. The machine now functions as two machines in one. 

Additional Safety Features

This is an example of a modified Criterion Model 45 Wide that was made for a biomedical customer. We added light curtains that allow open access for test setup and start, yet can automatically reduce the crosshead speed when the light curtain beams are broken. We created a custom working height for this floor-standing machine with our leveling caster kit and custom height T-slot table. We designed a full-width version of the T-slot table with custom hole patterns so the customer could use their existing fixtures. Finally, we made this a standalone workstation with the addition of a frame-mounted touchscreen and keyboard system.

Frame-Mounted Features

We've added and modified frame-mounted features such as touchscreen interfaces, PC keyboards, non-contacting extensometers, handsets and more.

External Electronics

We've created external electronics for systems that needed to be placed in humidity chambers and nuclear hot cells.
